Fowler’s position:- In increased ICP fowler’s position are provide to the patient it is the good position to maintain the normal ICP pressure of the patient. Fowler’s position are devide in the three type ie low fowlers, semi-fowler’s and high fowler’s.
. Low Fowler’s-In this position head of bed is elevated at 30 degree with flexion at the level of waist.Purpose-of low fowler postion is, to prevent aspiration during tube feeding, During increased ICP.
. Semi-Fowler’s- In this position head of the bed is elevated 45 degree with flexion at the level of waist. Purpose-To prevent aspiration, to promote lung expansion, to relieve tension of surgical site in abdominal sugeries, paracentesis and also in tracheoesophageal fistula.
. High Fowler’s- In this position head of the bed is elevated 90 degree with flexion at the level of waist.Purpose of high fowler postion is, Emphysema, COPD, asthma, Pleural effusion, ARDS, Nasogastric tube insertion, to prevent the risk of choking, to relieve respiratory distress and to prevent aspiration also.
