Let’s understand this in a very easy way.

What is the Triple Screen Test?
It is a blood test done during pregnancy (usually in the second trimester) to check if the baby is at risk for certain abnormalities.

It is called “Triple” because it measures three substances in the mother’s blood.

These three are:

• Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) → Produced by the fetus
• Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) → Produced by the placenta
• Estriol → A type of estrogen related to pregnancy

Why progesterone is not included?
Progesterone is also an important hormone in pregnancy, but it is not part of the triple screen test.

The test specifically focuses on AFP, hCG, and estriol to assess the risk of conditions like Down syndrome and neural tube defects.
